Here’s the entry that I submitted to our Medical School photo contest. It actually won for the best photo overall (in a four-way tie)!
This little fellow is a mayfly (Order Ephemeroptera). He was my friend for his entire adult life. Mayflies can live underwater in a juvenile stage for a year before they erupt out of the water into their adult, winged, beautiful, forms. Their adult bodies lack mouths, however, and so they can only survive for a single day. Their sole purpose at this point is to reproduce before they die. Personally, I believe mayflies to be the most elegant of insects on earth.

Wow! congrats Jason
The photo is really awesome. What was the contest for exactly?

! It was to raise money for charity… I believe War Child Canada. You had to make a donation to submit, and prints of the photos were sold to viewers. T’was fun, and tons of awesome photos were submitted

I think that a 4 way tie is a big cop-out. You should demand a recount until you win!

I always knew that photo was a winner. It never won anything by hanging on my bulletin board last year, but I’m glad you entered it now and won!
